On Water

Speedboat

The speedboat sat high on the water.
The engine roared to life.

This time, the wheel was in my hands.
A twist of the throttle and the shoreline began to shrink.

Wind rushed past my face.

The lake that once felt enormous now seemed small.

I skimmed across the surface, leaving a long white wake behind us.

There was always another cove to explore.
I wanted to see where it led.

I made it back before the fuel ran out.
