XI
Giving Differently
Nothing about giving
has to disappear.
The care is still there.
The instinct to show up.
To support.
To offer something real.
That doesn’t need to change.
What changes
is where you are
while doing it.
Before,
you moved outward first.
Now,
there’s a brief return inward.
Not long.
Just enough
to notice:
Do I have this to give?
Do I want to?
And the answer
isn’t always yes.
But it isn’t always no either.
Sometimes it’s partial.
A different kind of response.
Less immediate.
More aligned.
And that difference matters.
Because the giving
is no longer automatic.
It’s chosen.
Even if the choice
happens quickly.
You’re there for it.
Included in it.
And that changes
how it feels.
There’s less tension.
Less of that quiet sense
that something is off.
Because nothing is being skipped.
Not the situation.
And not yourself.
The giving still happens.
But it carries
a different weight.
Not obligation.
Not anticipation.
Just willingness.
And sometimes,
that willingness isn’t there.
And that’s part of it too.
Not every moment
needs to be filled
with giving.
Not every need
has to be met by you.
And recognizing that
doesn’t reduce the connection.
It clarifies it.
Because now,
what you give
is actually yours to give.
Not something you moved into
without noticing.
Something you arrived at
on purpose.
And that’s the difference.
Not less care.
Just care
that includes you.
