When You Pause
It doesn’t begin
with certainty.
Just a pause.
A moment
where you don’t respond
the way you usually do.
Something is asked.
And instead of moving quickly
to meet it—
you hesitate.
Not because you don’t care.
But because something in you
is no longer immediate.
That pause
is new.
Before,
it didn’t exist.
You would have already responded.
Already adjusted.
Already moved toward it.
Now,
there’s space.
And in that space,
a question appears.
Do I want to do this?
Not what’s expected.
Not what keeps things smooth.
But what’s actually true for you.
And sometimes,
the answer is different.
Not a full no.
But not the same yes.
And even that
can feel like a shift.
Because it is.
But this moment
doesn’t always hold.
You may step away.
See things clearly.
Decide not to continue
the same way.
And still find yourself
moving back into it.
Not because
nothing changed.
But because clarity
is not always stable at first.
There can still be doubt.
A thought that maybe
you misunderstood.
That maybe
it wasn’t what it seemed.
That maybe
if you approach it differently,
it will feel different.
So you return.
And the pattern repeats.
Often more quickly.
Because nothing underneath
has actually changed.
The same dynamic.
The same responses.
The same imbalance.
And each time,
it becomes harder to ignore.
Not because it’s new—
But because it’s familiar.
You begin to recognize it
earlier.
Feel it sooner.
Reach the same point
with less distance in between.
And eventually,
something shifts again.
Not just in what you see—
But in what you can no longer
stay inside.
The doubt doesn’t disappear.
But it weakens.
Because the pattern
has repeated too many times
to fully deny.
And the pause
becomes more stable.
Long enough
to hold.
Long enough
to act differently.
Not perfectly.
But enough
to not return
in the same way again.
