The Strawberry by the Wall

A strawberry plant grew at the base of a stone wall.

It didn't get the morning sun.

Its roots squeezed between stones, and it never grew as large as the plants in the open garden.

Still, every summer it produced a handful of strawberries.

The gardener sometimes wondered if she should move it somewhere sunnier.

Then one spring night, a cold wind swept through the garden.

By morning, several plants had bent stems and damaged blossoms.

The little strawberry plant was still standing.

The wall had taken most of the wind.

The gardener looked at the plant.

She left it where it was.
