Strawberries

The Strawberry and the Firefly

A strawberry dreamed of shining.

At night she watched fireflies blink across the meadow.

“They're magical,” she sighed. “I wish I could glow.”

One warm evening, a firefly landed beside her.

“You don't glow?” he asked.

“No,” the strawberry said.

The firefly looked surprised. “Then why do all the bees visit you every day?”

The strawberry thought about it. The bees came. The butterflies came. The birds stopped nearby. Children smiled when they saw her.

The firefly blinked slowly.

“I shine in the dark,” he said. “You shine in the daytime.”
