On Water

Lighthouse

The lighthouse stood where land met sea.

I spent more time watching the sea than crossing it.

Many mornings were calm.
Others were wrapped in fog.

Boats passed near and far.

They headed out.
They headed home.

At night, the light swept across the dark water. The sea was as restless as ever.

I no longer felt the need to follow it.

After the boats, there was still water.

We travel through life in different boats.

Some carry us.
Some challenge us.
Some become home.

The boats change.

The water remains.
