The Moth and the Lantern

A moth circled
the same lantern
every night.

The light was warm.
Bright.
Easy to find in the dark.

So the moth never flew
very far from it.

One evening,
the lantern went out.

The moth circled
through the darkness
looking for the light.

Then slowly,
its eyes adjusted.

Above the field,
the sky was filled with stars
it had never noticed before.
