The Key

A man owned a small brass key.

It opened one particular door perfectly.
The lock turned smoothly every time.

The man admired the key.

Then he began trying it on every door he encountered.

Front doors. Cabinets. Gates. Padlocks.

They remained locked.

Eventually, the man became convinced the key was defective.

He had it examined, tested, and compared against other keys.

Nothing was found wrong with it.

It still opened the same door.

Smoothly, as it always had.
