What They Saw

I used to believe that good actions naturally created a better and warmer world.

So giving more seemed like an easy choice.

Then life taught me something uncomfortable.

Some people see generosity and think gratitude.
Some people see generosity and think opportunity.

Some people see loyalty and think trust.
Some people see loyalty and think permission.

Some people see forgiveness and think mercy.
Some people see forgiveness and think there will be no consequences.

The action is the same. The interpretation is not.

Goodwill does not control how it will be received.

That does not make generosity, loyalty, or forgiveness less valuable. It simply means they need boundaries.

A boundary is not the opposite of kindness.

Sometimes it is what allows kindness to remain kindness.
