Opening

Giving does not produce a single result. Its effects depend on context, interpretation, and the relationship between those involved.

Some forms of giving remain balanced, reciprocal, or limited in scope. Others may occur without any continuing relationship at all, as in charity or temporary assistance.

This book examines a different trajectory: overgiving.

Over time, repeated asymmetrical giving may gradually reshape expectation and interaction within the relationship itself.

The sections that follow examine how these patterns form, persist, and alter interaction between those involved.

The dynamics described in this manuscript do not necessarily develop to the same degree in every relationship. Some readers may recognize only earlier stages of the process, while others may recognize later forms of entrenchment and persistence.
